So why is it that when we are choosing our swimwear, so many women are still opting for the standard swimsuit that flattens their bust, provides no support and does little, if anything, to flatter their shape.

I hear so many women saying that they cannot wear swimwear as they feel simply awful when they put it on. Well, to anyone who says they can’t wear a swimming costume, I say it is because you haven’t found the right one.

There are three key areas that need to be considered when most women are choosing their swimwear:

1. the Bust

2. the Tummy

3. the Hips, Thighs and Bottom area

if you can identify the key issues you need to address in each area and provide the necessary support, you can become one of the millions in this country that now enjoy wearing plus size swimwear and can one again take pride in their appearance when they hit the beach.

1. the Bust

Whether you have a small bust or large, support is essential. For a smaller bust support will provide a fuller shape and emphasis. For some this means just ensuring their costume has adjustable or self tie straps to create the best fit possible, for others this means internal padding and underwire support. Don’t be afraid to opt for a more supportive top, which you can find in a range of tankinis and swimming costumes as well as bikinis. If you wear underwires in your bra every day to give you the shape you want, make sure you apply the same theory to your swimwear.

Any lady with a bigger bust knows that wearing a bra that is too small feels awful but looks even worse. If you have overspill either in the cup, under the arms or at the back, a bra does not fit and is not going to enhance your shape. And if you can accept that in your underwear then please apply the same benefits to your swimwear. Most control panels, whether they are in the tummy area, across the top of the thighs or down the sides of your body, work by using highly elastic material that can actually pull you in giving you a smoother, firmer shape. They provide definition to your waist and flatten your tummy and also make you stand up straighter which drastically improves both your stature and your shape. Combine this with camouflaging prints and cross over designs and you will find that your costume can actually flatter your shape and make you look better than you do without it.

3. the Hips, Thighs and Bottom

Even if you are riddled with cellulite and are prone to wobbly thighs, there are still ways to make you feel confident in your swimwear. But the first, and best piece of advice has to be, get a reality check. Your thighs and bottom are always going to look bigger to you than they do to anyone else. Sitting down and squashing your legs onto a chair will also make them look bigger. Take a critical look at yourself and ask yourself, is there really a problem?

If your answer is still ‘yes’ then you may need the help of an all over shaping swimsuit such as the Miracle Suit which has the same supportive nature across the entire costume or bikini so that no part of your body is not sucked in. If you are still concerned, then opt for a swimdress or swimskirt that can hide your thighs or even a sarong which will give you the confidence you need.

Remember, more people are probably going to see you in your swimwear than have ever seen you in your underwear so put more thought in, rather than less, and use all the tricks of the trade to get the support you need. It is called ‘secret support’ because it is designed to help without other people seeing it, but we don’t want to keep it a secret from you any more.
